SSPN Relief: Education Savings That Reduce Your Tax

Updated: 8 November 2026 Independently fact-checked.

What is the SSPN relief?

SSPN (National Education Savings Scheme) is an education savings scheme managed by PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation).

For income tax, deposits made into SSPN qualify as a tax relief under paragraph 46(1)(k) of the Income Tax Act 1967 (ITA 1967).

How it is calculated — net deposits

SSPN relief is calculated based on net deposits:

This means if you withdraw money from SSPN in the same year, the withdrawal amount reduces the amount you may claim.

Annual claim limit

HASiL displays a limit of RM8,000 for SSPN net deposits on its current tax relief tab and in the Form BE Explanatory Notes.

SSPN-i (shariah-compliant savings)

SSPN-i is the shariah-compliant version of SSPN savings.

How is it reported?

The SSPN relief is claimed in the education relief box in your return form — for most salaried individuals, this is Form BE. The Form BE Explanatory Notes contain a worksheet for the SSPN amount.

Evidence and records

Keep your SSPN statement or receipt as proof of deposit. Keep records for at least 7 years.

Since when is it available?

Simple example

Maya and Adam deposit RM5,000 into their child's SSPN account in 2026 and withdraw nothing in the same year. Their net deposit is RM5,000. They claim the SSPN relief in Form BE in the education relief box, subject to the permitted annual limit [UNTUK DISAHKAN — verify the RM8,000 limit for YA 2025/2026].

If they withdraw RM1,000 in the same year, the net deposit becomes RM4,000 — the claim amount is reduced by that withdrawal.
